Mercedes-Benz car insurance
If you relish pulling up to events in red carpet style, you might be a Mercedes-Benz driver (or are ready to become one). Motorists in this luxury car crew are part of a large network of stylish drivers, with Mercs being Australia’s leading prestige car brand in terms of sales, according to carsales.com.au.
Whether you drive a Mercedes SUV, an executive Benz C-Class or a new electric-powered Merc, you’ll want to make sure your prized wheels are properly insured. So, let’s look at some of the big questions around car insurance for Mercedes-Benz.
How much does it cost to insure a Mercedes-Benz?
Car insurance quotes are dependent on a number of factors specific to you and your car, from how old you both are to how many insurance claims you’ve made and even the colour of your car.
So Mercedes-Benz drivers can get a ball-park figure on insurance costs, Mozo’s data experts have done some digging and found the pricing on more than 1,000 Mercedes car insurance quotes. The team used demographic information from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) to identify various sample quotes for annual premium pricing (representing 80% of customer scenarios).
After crunching the numbers, we found the cost to insure a Mercedes-Benz for a year would be between the upper and lower ranges of $664 and $2,477. While there’s a pretty significant price range difference, our analysis considers all the Merc models which come at different price points.
Car value is one of the key factors influencing car insurance costs, but let’s take a look at some of the other things which might affect your Mercedes car insurance premium.
What might impact my Mercedes insurance costs?
Your age driving experience. Young or inexperienced drivers will usually be charged a higher premium, as they are statistically riskier drivers and are therefore considered more likely to make a car insurance claim. Our data shows young Benz drivers aged 16-25 are quoted the highest premiums (between $1,205 and $3,713) compared to the 55+ age bracket who pays the lowest premiums, between $593 and $1,762.
Your gender. Similarly, male drivers are generally seen as riskier on the roads than females. As such, men are often labeled risker insurance customers and quoted a higher car insurance premium. But it looks like Benz drivers are bucking this trend. Mozo’s example quote data shows men are quoted up to $18 less on insurance than female Merc drivers (so it’s still a pretty close race).
Your postcode. Where you live can impact your Mercedes-Benz car insurance premium, as different areas have different crime levels and road crash statistics. If these crime and accident rates are higher where you live, you’ll be seen as a riskier insurance customer since you regularly drive and park your car on more dangerous roads. Mozo’s research found Mercedes drivers in NSW and the ACT were quoted the highest insurance premiums ($934-$3,103), and those in Tasmania received the cheapest quotes ($487-$1,377).
Your car’s colour. While it may only be surface-deep, the colour of your car can affect your insurance premium. This is due to factors like your car’s colour influencing visibility on the road which can impact crash risk, or the likelihood of some cars being stolen based on their colour (whether it’s to blend in or stand out).
What kind of insurance should I get for my Mercedes?
Like all Aussie car owners, Mercedes drivers will need to sort out compulsory third party insurance (CTP) to legally drive on the roads. This differs slightly between the states and territories, but in general it covers you for costs associated with injuries and deaths resulting from car accidents.
CTP doesn’t cover any damages to other cars or your own. The first level of elective car insurance, third party property damage, does include this kind of cover if you are responsible for damage to other vehicles. Keep in mind, this is generally capped at a dollar limit and doesn’t protect your own precious wheels.
Since Mercedes-Benz are luxury cars and generally worth a pretty penny, you’ll probably want to consider comprehensive car insurance. This is the highest level of car insurance in Australia, and for a higher price tag it goes well beyond third party coverage and insures your Benz for a range of possible circumstances and damages.
Every policy has different inclusions, cover limits and criteria for making a successful claim, so be sure to read the product disclosure statement (PDS) for all these details before taking out a policy.
Compare Mercedes-Benz car insurance options
No matter what kind of car you drive, the best policy is to always research and compare all car insurance policy options available to you. This way you can make sure your Mercedes is completely protected and ensure you’re getting the best possible price for the cover.
