A journey with ING Bank: sleek tech, mixed service

In the quiet dawn of my financial journey, I found myself nestled within the embrace of ING Bank. It was a relationship born out of curiosity and necessity, a blend of pragmatism and hope. As I reflect on this journey, the nuances of my experience come to life, painted with the hues of both admiration and disappointment. The first encounter with ING was akin to stepping into a modern sanctuary of banking. The sleek, intuitive interface of their online platform invited me with a promise of ease and efficiency. It was a refreshing departure from the clunky, labyrinthine systems of traditional banks. The simplicity was almost poetic, a digital Eden where transactions flowed seamlessly, and information was at my fingertips. The pros here were undeniable: accessibility, convenience, and a user-centric design that felt like a gentle whisper in a world of financial cacophony. Yet, as with any relationship, the initial euphoria gave way to deeper explorations and, inevitably, revelations. The customer service, though often prompt, sometimes lacked the warmth and empathy one yearns for in moments of financial distress or confusion. The automated responses, while efficient, sometimes felt cold, an impersonal touch in a space that can be deeply personal. This was a con that lingered like an unwelcome aftertaste, a reminder that technology, while wondrous, cannot wholly replace the human touch. There was, too, the subtle undercurrent of tension with the interest rates. Competitive, yes, but fluctuating in ways that mirrored the unpredictability of a tempestuous sea. It required a vigilant eye, a constant awareness that could be both exhilarating and exhausting. This duality was a con that danced with a pro, a reminder of the volatile nature of financial markets and the need for cautious optimism. However, ING’s commitment to sustainability and ethical banking practices was a glowing ember in the narrative. It was a pro that resonated deeply, an alignment of values that felt like a kindred spirit. Their investments in green projects and community initiatives painted them in a light that was both noble and inspiring, a beacon of hope in an industry often marred by greed and exploitation. In the tapestry of my financial journey with ING, the threads of pros and cons wove a complex pattern. The ease of use and ethical stance were bright, vibrant threads, while the occasional coldness of customer service and the mercurial interest rates cast shadows. For those considering ING, it is a bank that offers much, but like any relationship, it demands an openness to both its light and its shade. In the end, perhaps what stands out most is the journey itself—a mosaic of experiences that taught me not just about banking, but about trust, vigilance, and the ever-evolving dance with our financial realities.

    Perfect for travel

Been with them for over 12 months now and very happy. The rebates on paying your bills and international fees makes it perfect for travel and everyday use. Turning on the savings account with it has been a great bonus.

Orange I glad to be with ING!

I’ve been a loyal ING customer for years, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. I appreciate the free ATM withdrawals, though, let’s be honest—who really needs cash these days? The utility bill rebates are a nice perk, and the free international transactions make traveling abroad a breeze. My only minor complaint is the number of marketing emails I receive. And while there’s no physical branch here in Melbourne, that’s not an issue for me—online-only suits my millennial lifestyle perfectly!

Very pleased with my choice of account!

If you want a no hassle bank account, then this is the one for you. Easy to set up. Easy to contact if you have issues, competitive interest rate and very user friendly app. Only drawback is obviously that it is online-so if you need to go into a branch that is not an option.

    Customer service lacking

It’s very hard to get support from ING as they’re online only and anytime I’ve tried to update details, I.e. change my name to my married name, they’ve made it very difficult. The customer service is lacking.

High Interest Rates & Global Convenience

The biggest drawcards of this bank are the 5.50% per annum interest available for savings accounts, as well as being able to use the card overseas with unlimited rebates on international transaction fees. The latter has actually been the reason I've recommended ING to friends and family. Two cons to be aware of are how much ING invests in the fossil fuel industry compared to other banks and not having physical branches to visit if needed. In saying that, their customer service is incredible, and I have never felt like I couldn't get something done because I couldn't go and talk to a person in-store.

    Would recommend ING

Ive been with ING for around 7 years and have had no issues at all in that time. I love how you can set up many different savings accounts attached to your main account. You can also use any banks ATM for free because ING refund the ATM fees each time. They may not have branches you can go into, but you can do everything you need online or at Australia Post.
